Thrift Store Treasure: Three Royal China Jeannette Pie Plates

Friday, on my way home from doing errands ( my son & nephew's Banking, a little grocery shopping, Pharmacy for me)  I stopped at our Community Thrift Shop and found exactly one of the items I needed.  This was an exciting find. a At $2.99 a piece I thought that they were just a wee bit pricy for a thrift shop  -but-  even so they were still priced  considerably less that if I were to buy them new.  I knew I was getting a huge bargin but little did I know how much of a bargin!!  I did a little research online discovering that Royal China Jeannette  are Collectables.  Should I sell them or keep them? Decisions, Decisions......

priced at $45.00

Priced at $35.00

Priced at $35.00

  1. I always solve this problem by 1) selling all but my favorite one, or 2) selling enough until what I keep is free to me. In other words, my purchase cannot cost me anything and maybe I make a tidy profit.

You did well. I would keep the one with the bowl of green apples.

  2. Good idea Linda: I like the one with the bowl of green apples the best too. I think I might list the other two on ebay this week. I love Thrift Stores!!! If I can find another regular run-of-the-mill stoneware deep dish pie plate I will sell the 3rd one too.

    Thanks for the tip!

  4. Holy cow! I have all of the ones pictured as well! I inherited them from my grandmother and they collect dust in my garage. I will be hauling them out to sell! Thanks!

  5. Hi Michelle!
Congratulations!!! I've found several things at Thrift/Goodwill Shops that were 'collectables' A couple years ago I found a beautiful set set of Bone China priced at $19.95 sitting next to a set of chipped up stoneware dinner set for the same price. I snatched them up at the speed of light!!! I did an online search & found that they are a discontinued pattern & wear-houses sell them for replacement pieces. Just one cup & saucer was selling for $25-30 ( I have 8). that was about 4 years ago. Anyways, if I have a hunch and the marking on the back of an item has 'the look' I will buy it to resell or to 'gift'. This year I will look for 'collectables' to give as Holiday/Birthday gifts. Wrapping the item in handmade dish towels (made from Thrift Store finds like Linen Tablecloths) along with a print out with all the info on the collectable item.

Thank you so much for reading my blog and taking the time to comment. I found your blog & am now your newest Follower. I have another blog that also has Frugal Hints that I've gathered. It's called 'Green & Groovy': http://denbeath1.blogspot.com/
